아이폰 17 일반 제품을 사용하고 있고, 최신 스마트폰이라 카메라 성능이 꽤 좋다. 일상의 사진 및 여행에서 스마트폰만큼 편한 카메라도 없다고 생각한다. 블랙매직 카메라 앱을 이용하면 영상 편집에 이점이 많은 애플 프로레스 포맷도 사용 가능해서 영상 촬영용으로도 요긴할 듯하다. 아쉬운 점은 ND 필터 등 광학 필터 장착이 곤란하고, 이를 가능하게 하는 필터 어댑터는 카메라용 원형 필터를 단순 활용해서 스마트폰의 장점과 어울리지 않는다. 전용 케이스와 필터 시스템 제품은 비싸기도 하려니와 주로 PRO 모델 제품만 있고, 알루미늄 합금의 무게감이 불만이었다.

1. 설계의 핵심: "작은 필터, 큰 시야"
가장 큰 도전은 아이폰의 13mm 초광각 렌즈를 비네팅 없이 커버하는 것이었습니다.
- 오즈모 포켓 3 필터의 재발견: 매우 얇은 이 필터를 아이폰 렌즈에 최대한 밀착시킬 수 있도록 하우징을 설계했습니다.
- 결과: 초광각에서도 물리적 비네팅이 발생하지 않는 완벽한 광학적 거리를 확보했습니다. (단, VND 사용 시 초광각 주변부 광량 저하는 편광 필터 특성상 감안해야 할 부분입니다.)

- 플랫 타입 (Flat Type): 군더더기 없는 매끈한 형태로, 일상적인 휴대성을 극대화합니다.
3. 마그네틱 시스템: 1초 만에 완성되는 세팅
케이지에는 "10개의 네오듐 자석(4mm x 2mm)"와 4개의 위치 고정 핀을 매립했습니다.
- 이를 통해 전용 썬 후드를 별도의 나사 체결 없이 '착' 붙여 사용할 수 있습니다. 빛 반사 차단이 필요한 순간, 즉각적인 대응이 가능합니다.
- 필터 역시 마그네틱 방식으로 신속하게 교체할 수 있어 촬영의 흐름을 방해하지 않습니다.
4. DIY 제작의 솔직한 고찰
- 장점: 작은 아이폰용 ND 필터 시스템을 구현했습니다. 특히 블랙매직 카메라 앱과 결합했을 때, 아이폰 17 일반 모델은 쓸만한 시네마 카메라로 변신합니다.
- 단점: 3D 프린팅 재질(PLA/PETG 등)의 강도를 위해 일정 두께를 확보하다 보니 전체적인 부피가 커진 점은 아쉽습니다. 또한 측면 개방형 설계로 조작성은 살렸지만, 기성품 케이스 같은 슬림한 손맛은 다소 희생되었습니다.

The iPhone 17 (Base Model) packs an impressive camera, but its lack of professional expandability has always been a hurdle. Traditional 52mm filter systems are often too bulky, compromising the very portability that makes smartphone filming great. To solve this, I designed a custom cage specifically for the Osmo Pocket 3’s ultra-compact magnetic filters.
1. The Core Design: "Small Filter, Large Field of View"
The biggest challenge was covering the iPhone’s 13mm Ultra-Wide lens without vignetting.
The Solution: By leveraging the slim profile of Osmo Pocket 3 filters, I designed a housing that allows the glass to sit as close to the iPhone lens as possible.
The Result: I achieved a perfect optical distance with zero physical vignetting, even on the Ultra-Wide lens. (Note: Due to the nature of polarizing layers in Variable ND filters, some peripheral light fall-off is unavoidable at 13mm, though it remains negligible at standard wide angles.)

The Assembly: Both plates are securely fastened with M2.5 screws to ensure a rock-solid connection that won't budge during movement.
3. The Magnetic Hood: Precision & Speed
Unlike the backplates, the Sun Hood uses a magnetic snap-on system for instant deployment.
Magnets & Pins: The cage is embedded with 10 Neodymium magnets (4mm x 2mm) and 4 locating pins.
The Result: The pins ensure the hood aligns perfectly every time, while the magnets hold it firmly in place. It allows you to block glare the moment you need it, without fumbling with tools.
4. Honest Reflections on the DIY Process
The Pros: I’ve successfully built a compact ND filter system that doesn't overwhelm the phone. When paired with the Blackmagic Camera App, the iPhone 17 becomes a truly capable cinematic tool.
The Cons: To ensure structural integrity with 3D-printed materials (PLA/PETG), I had to maintain a certain thickness, which unfortunately increased the overall bulk. While the open-side design preserves button access, it does sacrifice the slim, "naked" feel of a standard consumer case.
